A Welcoming, Professional Space for Every Body

To help you get the best results from your tattoo, we’ve put together a few simple guidelines. Whether you’re preparing for your appointment or looking after a fresh piece, following this care advice will support healing and preserve the quality of your tattoo for years to come.

How to Prepare for Your Tattoo

Thank you for booking your tattoo with us at Nowhere Tattooing! To ensure the best possible experience and outcome, please read and follow these pre care instructions carefully before your appointment.

1. General Health and Wellness

  • Rest Up: Get a full night’s sleep before your session. Being well rested helps you better handle the duration, especially for large tattoos that may take several hours.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours leading up to your appointment. Well-hydrated skin is more resilient and easier to tattoo.

  • Eat a Good Meal: Have a solid, balanced meal 1 to 2 hours before your appointment. A full stomach helps keep your energy levels stable and prevents lightheadedness.

  • Avoid Alcohol, Drugs, and Caffeine: Do not consume alcohol, recreational drugs, or caffeine for at least 24 hours beforehand. These substances can thin the blood and increase bleeding during tattooing and make you much more sensitive to the pain than you need be!

2. Skin Preparation

  • Moisturise in Advance: In the week leading up to your appointment, moisturise the area to be tattooed daily, but avoid applying anything on the day itself. Healthy, moisturised skin is easier to work with.

  • Protect Your Skin: Avoid tanning, sunburn, or irritating the skin. If the skin is damaged, we may need to reschedule your session.

  • Shaving (If Needed): If the area is quite hairy, you can gently shave it a day or two before your appointment. If you’re unsure or uncomfortable doing so, please leave it to your artist.

3. Clothing and Comfort

  • Dress for Access and Comfort: Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed. Dark colours are recommended, as ink may stain.

  • Bring Extra Layers: Studios can get chilly, especially during long sessions. A warm layer you can take on or off easily is helpful.

  • Skip Scented Products: Avoid applying perfumes, oils, or scented lotions on the day of your appointment.

4. Mental and Physical Preparation

  • Pain Management: Large tattoos can be intense. If you’re concerned about pain, you may take a non aspirin pain reliever like paracetamol (Tylenol) an hour beforehand. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen, as they thin the blood.

  • Snacks and Water: Bring a bottle of water and some light, snacks like fruit, granola bars, or nuts to maintain your energy levels.

  • Take Breaks: Don’t hesitate to ask for a break if you need one, we want you to be as comfortable as possible throughout your session.

5. Schedule and Logistics

  • Allow Plenty of Time: Large tattoos often take several hours. Please don’t schedule anything tight afterwards and allow for buffer time in case the session runs longer.

  • Bring Entertainment: Feel free to bring headphones, a book, or something to help pass the time during the session.

6. Health Considerations

  • Feeling Unwell? If you’re sick or starting to feel unwell, please let us know so we can reschedule. Tattooing while sick can affect your comfort and healing.

  • Watch Blood Thinning Substances: Avoid aspirin, fish oil, or other blood thinning supplements for a few days prior, unless prescribed by your doctor.

7. Cancellations and Changes

  • Please Give Notice: If you need to reschedule or have any concerns ahead of your appointment, get in touch at least 48 hours in advance. Large sessions require significant time and preparation, so we appreciate as much notice as possible.

Thanks again for choosing Nowhere Tattooing!

Your comfort and satisfaction are our priorities. Following these guidelines will help ensure a smooth, safe, and rewarding experience.

If you have any questions before your session, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re looking forward to creating something amazing with you.

Aftercare Instructions for Your Tattoo

Dry Healing Aftercare Guide

Thank you for trusting us with your new tattoo! To ensure a smooth healing process and the best possible results, please follow these dry healing instructions carefully:

1. Immediate Care, The First 24 Hours.

  • Leave the Bandage On: Your tattoo has been covered to protect it from bacteria and irritation. Keep the bandage on for 2 to 4 hours after your session.
  • Wash Your Hands First: Before removing the bandage, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and antibacterial soap.
  • Clean the Tattoo: Gently remove the bandage and wash your tattoo with warm water and a mild, antibacterial fragrance free soap, avoid bars of soap. Use clean fingertips to remove any plasma, ink or residue, avoid washcloths or sponges.
  • Pat Dry: Allow the tattoo to air dry for a few minutes, then gently pat it dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub or use a cloth towel, as this can irritate the skin.

2. The Dry Healing Process.

  • Let It Breathe: Keep your tattoo uncovered and exposed to air as much as possible. Avoid clothing that might stick to or rub against it.
  • Skip Lotions and Ointments: Don’t apply any moisturisers, balms, or ointments for the first few days. This allows a natural protective scab to form as part of the healing process.
  • No Picking or Scratching: Your tattoo will likely scab and peel. This is completely normal. Avoid scratching or picking at it, doing so can damage the design and increase the risk of infection.

3. General Aftercare Tips.

  • Wear Loose Clothing: Soft, loose fitting clothes are best. Tight or abrasive fabrics can irritate the healing skin.
  • Avoid Soaking: For 2 to 3 weeks, avoid swimming, long baths, hot tubs, or any soaking. Showers are fine, just avoid direct water pressure on the tattoo.
  • Avoid the Sun: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight for 3 to 4 weeks. Once fully healed, use SPF 30+ sunscreen to protect it from fading.

4. What to Expect.

  • Peeling and Itching: Mild itching and flaking is a normal part of healing. Don’t scratch, let the skin shed naturally.
  • Tightness and Dull Appearance: Your tattoo may feel tight and look slightly dull while healing. This will improve as your skin regenerates.

5. When to Seek Help.

  • Possible Infection: Contact a healthcare provider if you notice excessive redness, swelling, persistent pain, warmth, or yellow/green discharge.
  • Allergic Reactions: Unusual rashes, persistent itching, or severe irritation could be signs of an allergy, consult a doctor if concerned, please never hesitate to contact us when concerned.

6. Long Term Tattoo Care.

Once healed:

  • Moisturise Regularly: Use a fragrance free lotion to keep the skin soft and hydrated.
  • Protect from the Sun: Always apply sunscreen to preserve colour and prevent fading.
